Andrea Voets is artistic director of Resonate Productions. She creates musical journalism by combining in-depth, social journalism with many layers of original music.
In 2018, she became a new maker at De Balie, a prominent venue for contemporary arts, politics and culture in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This resulted in Wings & Roots (2018) and While We Live (2020). NRC listed this as one of the best productions of that year, calling it a “fascinating new genre”.
In 2022, Andrea made the podcast Millennial History with composer Luke Deane. Podcast-phenomenon Avery Trufelman named it as one of the six best podcasts of the year. That same year, she received the selective Dutch Fast Forward grant.
2024 brought FOR REAL: a theatrical radio-show on what it means to matter. The starting point is an analysis of the intellectual undermining of women. In 2025, FOR REAL makes its New York debut at BAM’s Next Wave festival.
2025 brings Nothing Bigger Than Humanity: an invitation to feel what it means to be human in today’s world, during a three-hour social experiment.
Andrea obtained her bachelor of harp and philosophy in Amsterdam and her master of harp at the Hanns Eisler conservatory in Berlin, where she has been teaching music philosophy ever since. She is artist-in-residence at O. festival Rotterdam and Festival van Vlaanderen Mechelen, and she is an ISPA-fellow. She is a guest-lecturer at universities throughout Europe in various disciplines and writes for De Groene Amsterdammer.
